Field data that reaches the report without retyping.

Zhikal builds custom web and mobile applications, data-capture forms, dashboards and workflow tools that let field teams record distributions, stock, attendance and payments once, and let project managers see them without waiting for a spreadsheet.

Digital Solutions in Afghanistan.

Most reporting delay in a field operation is transcription. A distribution is recorded on paper, photographed, emailed, retyped into a spreadsheet and then reconciled — and each hop introduces a chance for the record to diverge from what happened.

The digital work exists to shorten that chain for Zhikal's own assignments and for clients who want the same visibility. Data-capture forms mirror the paper record the field team already uses, so adoption does not depend on retraining, and the resulting data feeds dashboards and structured reports directly.

The capability is deliberately practical: workflow tools for approvals, forms for distributions and attendance, dashboards for stock and delivery status, and reporting formats that match what the client's funder asks for.

What this service covers

  • Custom web and mobile applications

Purpose-built tools for a specific assignment rather than a general platform to be configured.

  • Data-capture forms

Field forms mirroring existing paper records for distributions, attendance, stock and payments.

  • Dashboards

Current delivery, stock and disbursement status visible without waiting for a reporting cycle.

  • Workflow tools

Approval routing and exception handling that follow the contract's control requirements.

  • Structured reporting

Reports produced in the client's own format, drawn from the captured records rather than re-entered.

  • Reduced manual work

One record entered once, reused across operations, finance and closeout documentation.

Who it is for.

  • Project teams that need distribution or attendance data faster than a monthly reporting cycle.
  • Programmes reconciling field records against procurement and finance data.
  • Organisations that want visibility over an assignment Zhikal is delivering on their behalf.
  • Clients replacing spreadsheet-based tracking with a structured record.

How this works by sector

How a tool gets built.

  1. 01

    Map the record

Start from the paper form or spreadsheet the team already uses and the report it has to produce.

  2. 02

    Design

Define the fields, approvals and exceptions the contract's controls actually require.

  3. 03

    Build

Develop the web or mobile tool against that definition, sized to the assignment.

  4. 04

    Roll out

Deploy to field teams with the paper fallback intact until the digital record is trusted.

  5. 05

    Report

Feed dashboards and structured reports directly from the captured data.

  6. 06

    Support

Adjust forms and reports as the assignment changes, and keep the archive intact at closeout.

Coverage across Afghanistan.

Digital tools are used wherever Zhikal operates, including locations with intermittent connectivity, where records are captured offline and synchronised when a connection is available.

Documented experience.

  • Applied to Zhikal's own assignments

Structured data capture and reporting support the audit-ready documentation produced under warehousing, procurement and distribution contracts.

  • An in-house capability

Digital systems are led internally rather than subcontracted, so tools can be adjusted while an assignment is running.

  • What is not claimed here

No standalone software deployment for an external client is published on this page. The nationwide ZALA survey demonstrates field data capture and monitoring at scale, but that assignment was contracted as vehicle deployment and coordination, not as software delivery, and it is described on the Fleet & Transportation page for that reason.

Assignments are summarised from contracts and completion records supplied by Zhikal. Client names identify documented relationships and do not imply endorsement.

Common questions.

Does this work without a reliable internet connection?
Yes. Field records are captured offline and synchronised when a connection is available, which is the normal pattern in district-level operations.
Can a tool be built for a project Zhikal is not delivering?
Yes. Digital solutions can be engaged on their own, in the same modular way as any other capability in the portfolio.
Who owns the data?
The client. Records are handled on a need-to-know basis under the company's data-protection controls and archived to the client at closeout.
